Today: Saw this on the internet- do you think it comes in adult sizes??? CUTE! Its from Pottery Barns Kids. (the cupcake part of my title)
Also Today: Jessica Smith posted this on Facebook: Fitness DVD fans: I'm working on a new DVD series for you, and I want to know EXACTLY what you want! Please post your ideas or suggestions - I want to tailor make this series for YOU. How long do you like your home DVD workouts to be? What equipment do you use? Are you more into cardio sculpt? Interval training? Cardio... Pilates? Stretch and core work? Please... tell me what you want to see!...I'm really serious about tailoring these DVDs to exactly what you guys want to see/do! The more feedback the better. Anyone have any feedback for her?
Yesterday: Found out I actually have 80 hours of vacation time not 40! Ya it was like Christmas around here. Im def going to Vegas with DH & my brother. They were going to go w/out me but...sorry suckers! Im in! Very excited. (the Christmas part of my title)

Today's Tip: Foods that May Only Sound Healthy #2- Prepared Salads
Don't assume that anything with the word "salad" in it must be healthy. Prepared tuna salads, chicken salads, and shrimp salads are often loaded with hidden fats and calories due to their high mayonnaise content. While a lot depends on portion size and ingredients, an over-stuffed tuna sandwich can contain as many as 700 calories and 40 grams of fat. If you're ordering out, opt for prepared salads made with low-fat mayonnaise, and keep the portion to about the size of a deck of cards. More from Cooking Light here.

Today's Bargains: I finally got all the giveaways that were intended for Win, Lose, or Blog up and running on my blog. So I have 3 current giveaways going on right now: Juice Beauty Organic Body Brilliance Kit here, Miss Ooops Boob Tube camisole here, and Softlips 100% Naturals prize pack here. Pretty low entires and all fabulous prizes-good luck! DVD giveaways will start back up next week- YAY!
Monday's Workout:
-Sharon Mann The Works
Cardio (45 min)
-Jeanette Jenkins Blast The Belly Fat (circuit 2)
*total w/o time 60 min + stretch
Chose some of the more intense sections from the works and worked up a nice sweat. LOVING the Blast The Belly Fat! Its a core cardio dvd w/ 4 15ish minute segments that can be mixed and matched or used individually. She uses a stability ball and dumbbells. I will post a complete review when I have done all the segments. I ordered this one while my niece was in town and she thought the title was hilarious!
Today's Tip: Foods That May Only Sound Healthy #1: Multi-Grain and Wheat Breads:
Terms like multi-grain, 7-grain, and wheat sound healthy, but they may not actually contain heart-healthy whole grains. Many breads labeled "multi-grain" and "wheat" are typically made with refined grains, so you're not getting the full nutritional benefit of the whole grain. How can you be sure? Read nutrition labels carefully. If the first flour in the ingredient list is refined (it will typically say "bleached" or "unbleached enriched wheat flour") you are not getting a 100% whole-grain bread. More on Cooking Light here.

9.27.10: Monday- You Get 2 Thumbs Down
Cupcake Cakeballs: We went to friends house for dinner so I brought cake balls that look like teeny tiny cupcakes. Actually theyre brownies not cake. Basically pure evil dipped in chocolate, topped w/ sprinkles & an M&M. I left them all w/ the friends as not to tempt me. ( Custom cakes by Lindsey Lu. Phoenix custom cakes. Specialty Cakes Phoenix. Arizona custom specialty cakes. Specialty cupcakes phoenix. Custom cupcakes Phoenix wedding cakes. )
This Weekend: Got my Halloween costume and its super short, like basically the length of a shirt. Im not sure why all female Halloween costumes are so revealing. Im no prude but buttcheeks would be hanging out, and Im not even tall. Im going to have to do some altering or get a pair of thick leggings or something. lame.

Today's Review: The Firm Super Body Sculpt
Stephanie Huckabee, 2002 **** (4 of 5 stars)
This is a 40ish minute all strength w/o led by Stephanie with 4 background exercisers, one showing beginner modifications. The set is the BSS1 white walls w/ fans background. You will need a variety of dumbbells and a fanny lifter or other step for this workout.
This w/o is divided into UB, LB, and abs. There is a brief w/u & c/d in each segment so that you can do each segment as a stand alone 15 min w/o. But thats kindof a waste of time when you are stringing them together. Some of these dvds allow you to skip and choose sections from a main menu but some dont-mine doesnt. This kind of defeats the purpose, but whatever. The UB & LB are about 15 min each and the ab section is about 10 min.
For being pretty short on time each segment really packs a punch IMO. I felt that pretty much each muscle group was thouroughly worked by the end of this w/o. With maybe the exception of chest- pushups are the only chest work. You will do some compound moves but not as many as other Firms because the UB & LB are split up. I like that though because it allows you to really heavy up. Though there is no straight cardio work my HR was up nicely for a lot of it.
Moves include: leg press, bicep curl, clean & press, lat row, dips, lunges, squats, tricep kickbacks, French press, delt lifts, hover squats, hammer curls, push ups, etc. The ab work is mostly lying crunches & crunch variations including lower ab work. But she does include some oblique work while seated on the FL.
I would rate this a solid intermediate w/o that can easily be modified up or down to suit your needs depending on your poundage. I really like Stephanie as a lead and she does not dissapoint in this one. If my dvd were fully customizable I would probably have given this 5 stars. I dont nec like the seperate w/u & c/d's on each section but use that as a time to "free form" step aerobics or whatever to get my HR going.

Today's Review: The Firm Calorie Killer
Nancy Tucker, 2003 **** (4 of 5 stars)
This is a 35ish minute cardio w/o led by Nancy w/ 4 backgrounders, Alicia shows beginner mods. The set is the BSS2 set-white w/ color background & white walls. You will need a fanny lifter (or step) and the Sculpting Stick (or a set of light dumbbells) for the 4-limb work in this.
This is one of the few all cardio w/o's from the Firm-while you do use the stick or the twigs, its for 4 limb or a few light lunges & dips so I def do not consider any of it real toning. Some of the moves are typical Firm cardio moves but most are pretty unique and she combines the cardio into fun little routines that keep you interested and moving. The 1st routine is not as challenging as the remainder and this w/o seems to sneak up on me intensity wise.
Some of the moves include a punch and kick series, shuffle, a basketball-esque routine, step touching around your stick, some fun step routines, and some tall box climbs. She transitions from floor cardio, 4 limb cardio, step aerobics, and tall box climbs to keep things fun and I never get bored.
I like Nancy as a lead and she does a good job cueing in this one. There is one step section where I got confused for a second but all the moves are pretty straightforward to I dont think most would have a problem catching on the 1st time around. This is a fun little cardio w/o and I would rate it an intermediate w/o that would be easy to modify up or down to suit your needs.
Today's Tip: Belly Shrinkers: Nuts
Snacking on nuts may help you shed pounds. Researchers found that people who ate almonds as part of a low-calorie diet for six months lost 18 percent of their body weight -- slimming their waistlines and reducing body fat to boot. (Scientists suspect that the fiber-plus-protein combo keeps hunger in check.) Extra credit: Monounsaturated fats found in some nuts have been shown to lower bad LDL cholesterol levels while preserving the good kind that your body needs. Quick Tip: Toast raw nuts for extra crunch. Put a handful of your favorites on a baking sheet and roast in a 350-degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes. More on Fitness Mag here.

9.22.10: Big Body, Small Head
This Week: Found out my brother is going to come by for a visit! He has a business conference in Vegas so he will come here first, spend a few days, then DH & him will head on over to Vegas. Wish I could go w/ but I know I cant get anymore time off so soon so boohoo-I will have to stay home. Wahhhhh.
Yesterday: And for your viewing pleasure- my cat (yes again) its sad I feel like one of those ladies that carries around her dog in her purse, I dont....Anyway look how big her body is, and how small her head looks. It reminds me of that Chris Farley line "fat man in a little coat, fat man in a little coat" I may have gotten that wrong but close enough....
Tuesday's Workout:
-Firm Hi Def Sculpt
-10 Minute Solutions Pilates for Beginners (2 segments)
*total w/o time 60 min + stretch
Today's Review: 10 Minute Solutions Pilates for Beginners
Lara Hudson, 2010 ***** (5 of 5 stars)
This is a fully customizable pilates dvd led by Lara Hudson with no b/g exercisers. It has five 10 minute segments that can be mixed & matched as desired. The set is nice and open and you wont need any props for this w/o. She offers breathing and form tips throughout but not overly so, I think thats why they titled this "beginner" because I didnt find it super easy.
Core Basics: You begin with some breath work and move into curls, the hundred, c-curls, single leg stretch, criss-cross, side lying leg lifts, and a modified teaser.
Lower Body Basics: You start off in bridge and add in some table top leg lifts, then onto single leg circles, bridge w/ kicks, side leg kicks, frog lifts, and finish with grasshopper beats.
Upper Body Basics: Moves include modified swan w/ tricep pulses, swan w/ tricep press-ups, forearm plank, controlled front variations, pushups, side planks, and chest work. Includes lots of lower back work, which I like.
Total Body Cardio: Im not sure why this is called cardio; moves include: roll up, double leg stretch, seated twist, side kicks, table work, plnaks, and swimmer.
Long & Limber Stretch: This section is done standing, sitting/ kneeling, and lying. You start in tree pose, do a figure 4, a seated twist, cat cow, runners lunge, and a squat and shoulder section at the end.
Lara's cueing and form pointers are impecible throughout. I guess if you are a pilates pro you might not want these reminders but besides that I wouldnt say this is an easy beginners w/o. I agree w/ Collage's rating of intermediate. She moves right along and introduces some semi challenging pilates work. I really like Lara as a lead and will definatley be getting a ton of use out of this dvd. I think its great to use as an addon or to use together in its entirety.
Today's Tip:Bone Builders: Low-Fat Dairy
Just 1,000 milligrams of calcium a day can help you maintain bone mass when trying to lose weight. Including dairy, such as skim milk, in a low-calorie diet can help you shed belly fat. Quick Tip: Instead of sour cream, use low-fat cottage cheese in dips. It has less fat and more protein. Put it in the blender for a thick and creamy texture. More from Fitness Mag here.

Denise Austin Hot Body Yoga Review
Today's Review: Denise Austin Hot Body Yoga
Denise Austin, 2010, ***** (5 of 5 stars)
This is a fully customizable dvd w/ two 30 min yoga routines on it. You can mix and match, play all, and w/o with or w/out Denises instruction. The set is nice-lots of hardwood and some green windows w/ lots of space. You will need a set of lighter dumbbells for one of the w/os and possibly a yoga mat.
Denise leads the w/o's with a variety of male & female b/g'ers all showing various levels of modifications. The first w/o is a straightforward yoga workout with some standing, kneeling, and lying yoga poses. I like that she moves along at a nice not-rushed but not super slow pace. She does a lot of standard yoga poses: warrior variations, dancer, cobra, down dog, 1/2 moon, and other poses. There are no sun salutations-which is a nice change from other dvds I have.
The 2nd w/o is really unique IMO. Denise combines light dumbbell strength moves with yoga poses. You will do preacher curls while holding a lunge, warrior w/ rows, wide deadlifts w/ UB movements, tree w/ chest press & shoulder/ rotator cuff work, lower back work, boat w/ biceps, V sit, bridge w/ pec fly, etc. You do about 20 min standing and 10 minutes on the floor.
Know that I am not into alot of yoga and prefer athletic and straighforward but I really enjoyed both w/o's on this dvd; especially the 2nd weigthed routine. Very unique for me and right up my ally! I will def be using both of these a lot. Denise is much more mellow in this dvd than other w/o's of hers and her cueing and form are both fine for me. I would rate this an intermediate yoga fusion w/o.
This Weekend: Heres a pic of DH & I at the Grand Canyon. Too bad my eyes are closed lol. Its the only pic I have until my mom sends us the pics from her camera. Of course we forgot our camera...
Yesterday: I ordered a Halloween costume! Woohoo. I saw this post about a really good sale and went ahead and ordered. What are you all doing for the holiday? And you do all realize that Halloween is the beginning of the food fest we know as "the holidays." Good luck to us all.
Today's Tip: Energy Boosters: Whole Grains
Good news for carb lovers: You need at least 130 grams a day to keep your memory and concentration sharp. Opt for the whole-grain kind -- it's higher in fiber, giving you energy with staying power. Bonus: Including five servings of whole grains daily in your low-calorie diet can help you lose belly flab and lower your levels of C-reactive protein, a predictor of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Add two more servings and you could lower your risk of diabetes by more than 20 percent. More on fitness mag here.
