5.11.10: And the Coolest Person Award Goes To....


....ME! LOL, Look what I found. Isnt it so freaking cute? My sister made it for me in 1997. She would have been about 9, so granted, probably not a TON of competition in a 9 years old world-but still, coolest person, right! I have kept it all these years cuz I figure its probably a once in a lifetime award that I will never be honored w/ again. But hey, theres no expiration date on it so in my mind, the title still stands :) j/k.

Today's Workout:
-Urban Rebounding: Interval Bound
-Tae Bo Abs
*total w/o time 55 min + stretch

Today's Tip: Stand UP!
Make sure you stand at least one hour a day instead of a time when you would sit. example, while on the phone, computer, or watching TV! You will burn more calories and at the end of the week, your total caloric burn will aid in weight loss! (from Cindy whitmarsh facebook fan page)



Today's Review: Tae Bo Abs
Billy Blanks, 2004 **** (4 of 5 stars)

This is a mostly standing 25 minute ab routine led by Billy with 10-15 background exercisers. The set has pictures of Billy and other fitness type stuff hanging in the background with bright red carpet. You dont need any props for this workout.

After a quick warmup you move into a 22 minute standing ab routine. Billy does a lot of standing twisting-you stand in a pliet stance and twist your torso back & forth. He does side bend knee pulls, pulling the knee across the body, quick twisting, and a little bit of punching while twisting. I have a really bad neck so I couldnt keep my arms raised the entire time like he has, but I dont think that seriously detracted from my workout.

After the standing work you get a "bonus" floor strengthening routine that is about 5 minutes or so. You do some full sit-up variations and other crunch variations before moving into your stretch.

I would rate this a solid intermediate workout. Its fun and very different from my other ab w/o's. As typical in Tae Bo, Billy & the crew do count the entire time "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8" I know that annoys some. He is not too overzealous in this one. This w/o has a nice place in my w/o  collection.

Today's Recipe: Chocloate Banana Snack Smoothie
-1 scoop chocolate Platinum Hydro Whey protein powder
-1/2 banana
-2/3 cup skim milk (I used light chocolate soy)
-ice

*blend all ingredients in magic bullet and enjoy!
